Tesco Knowledge Hub

Innovation

The Tesco Knowledge Hub is an active online community of our suppliers. We created the Hub to help Tesco meet its target to reduce the carbon footprint of the products we sell by 30% by 2020. The Hub is a network where Tesco and our suppliers share experiences, ideas and best practice on how to innovate to reduce carbon emissions, water usage and waste. We are using it to build energy, skills and commitment in our supply chain so that we can meet our target.

Results

A recent survey shows that the Hub has helped its members to get help on a specific challenge they face; it has helped them understand Tesco’s goals; and many now have a carbon reduction target of their own in place. The Hub has been externally recognised as a leading example of work in this challenging area, including in the press and with the international ‘Gigaton’ award. As of July 2012, we have over 950 members from over 470 different organisations, representing commercial teams, technical experts and brand managers. For example in our Scottish supply base Mackies have shared their work on installing wind turbines, Greenvale on water saving technologies and Macsween on the importance of having a sustainable strategy.
