How to kick-start a real green deal

However laudable its aims, it’s hard not to conclude that the government’s flagship energy efficiency programme – the green deal – has become something of a shambles. Years in the planning, it promised householders long-term loans to upgrade hard-to-treat homes, with the repayments being more than covered by the property’s lower energy bills.

Uptake on the rise, but renewable energy potential still not being met, say farmers

More than three quarters of farmers don’t feel the potential for on-farm renewable energy is being met, according to new figures. The finding has come out of an exclusive survey – thought to be the most comprehensive of its kind in the UK – which involved gathering opinion on farm-based renewable energy from nearly 700 farmers across the country.

Increased funds to tackle climate change

More money will be made available to keep Scotland on track to meet its ambitious, world-leading and challenging targets. Minister for Environment and Climate Change Paul Wheelhouse revealed the additional funding will be allocated from the forthcoming Scottish Government budget for 2014-2015 for schemes to help reduce the country’s carbon footprint. Scottish expertise powers Chinese wind farm

A contract signed today will see Scottish renewable energy consultancy, SgurrEnergy provide expert support for the development of the first offshore wind farm in the Guangdong province, China. The contract, which will be delivered over two years, will see SgurrEnergy, part of Wood Group, advise the Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute (GEDI), one of China’s leading design institutions, on its landmark Zhuhai offshore wind farm project. Obama to announce plan to tackle climate change

Barack Obama will unveil a national climate change plan on Tuesday 25 June, offering the first real glimpse of how he intends to make good on one of the most stirring promises of his inaugural address. In a video posted on the White House web site on Saturday, the US president reiterated his view that climate change was the challenge of a generation.
