“Low Carbon Scotland” Meeting our Emission Reduction Targets 2013 – 2027
The Scottish Government today published the draft of the second report on proposals and policies (RPP2) for meeting Scotland’s annual greenhouse gas emissions targets that the Scottish Ministers must lay before the Scottish Parliament in accordance with the requirements in section 35 of the Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009.
Responding to the draft report, the 2020 Climate Group said:
“The 2020 Group broadly supports the aims of RRP2 and would encourage the Scottish Government and all aspects of Scottish society to maintain their commitment to reducing carbon emissions. The challenges are particularly pronounced in renewable heat and transport but we have to meet these challenges and accept that it will require everyone in Scotland to play their part.”
The role of the 2020 Climate Group is to help Scotland reach its target of 42% by 2020. That requires an honest and supportive working relationship with a range of partners including the Scottish Government. The challenges and opportunities of the second Report on Proposals and Policies (RPP2) will help to provide a focus for the whole of Scotland as we look to embrace the transformational change that is needed to meet the targets. The process of change needs to step up a gear and everyone in Scotland will be faced with making some changes in how we go about our daily lives.
