Scotland’s 2020 Climate Group offers high calibre students a range of opportunities to volunteer within the Group. We are interested in working with students studying a relevant masters or undergraduate programme, or students who can demonstrate a strong interest and self developed knowledge of climate change and environmental sustainability. The volunteer internships provide students with the chance to observe businesses working with other sectors of society to contribute to achieving Scotland’s greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets and apply their studies in practice.
There are three different types of volunteer internships. The first, working with the project management team, gaining an overall perspective of the Group and its work. The second, focuses on supporting a particular sub-group, allowing the student to gain an understanding of the Group’s work in a sector relevant to their interest. Finally, the third type of volunteer internship is research-based and will involve completing research and a report on a particular subject.
I have really enjoyed my time working with the 2020 group, the members have been very supportive and have helped me fully appreciate the challenges of implementing strategies to meet climate targets. During my time with the sub-group I have met some great contacts at the forefront of tackling carbon emissions in the built environment and has inspired me to pursue a career in this area. I would thoroughly recommend the internship as it is a fantastic opportunity to apply any academic knowledge and to understand how to effectively tackle climate change on the ground.
