Launch of the Spatial Planning Assessment of Climate Emissions (SPACE) tool
Spatial planning decisions are crucial in delivering required new development in Scotland in a way that reduces greenhouse gas emissions from energy use, land use change, transport and waste. Planning is crucial to the delivery of Scotland’s greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets as well as enabling the transition to a low carbon future. The Spatial Planning Assessment of Climate Emissions (SPACE) tool, the result of a partnership project between Scottish Government and SEPA, is designed as a bespoke tool for Scottish local authority planners to consider the climate emission from decisions they make on development plans. This in turn will help planners make more informed decisions and therefore help support the transition to a low carbon Scotland. SPACE was launched on the 21st March 2012 by Stewart Stevenson, the Environment and Climate Change Minister at the Public Sector Climate Action Group.
