Countdown to 2020

Since 2015, 2020 Group Secretariat has been provided by the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation (ECCI). ECCI brings low carbon leaders and practitioners from business, finance and the public sector together to turn good ideas into reality. Part of the University of Edinburgh, ECCI engages with forward-thinkers and uses its network to help companies drive innovation into their supply chains and create new low carbon products and services.

Information on the roles of staff within the Secretariat can be found below.

Fleur Ruckley, Project Director

Fleur leads the 2020 Climate Group Secretariat team. She is an experienced programme manager, with a detailed understanding of the environment and resource management operations across a range of sectors and a particular interest in circular economy and behaviour change. Fleur has more than twenty years’ experience working in the UK and overseas in environmental and organisational management roles, most recently at the University of Edinburgh. She is a self-motivated and results-driven project manager with an MA in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge and MSc in Environmental Management. Fleur is also a Chartered Waste Manager and an Associate Member of IEMA as well as a qualified and experienced trainer and mentor.

Siobhan Dunn Marketing & Communications Manager

An experienced marketing and communications professional with an extensive background in private, public and third sector campaigns and initiatives, Siobhan was most recently involved in the Smart Accelerator project at ECCI where she oversaw marketing and communications for the Accelerator projects. An experienced content developer and strategist for social media and the web, Siobhan has a background in digital marketing, publishing and copywriting. She currently manages website and membership strategy and works with the comms team to deliver all aspects of the Centre’s communication strategy. Siobhan has an honours degree in Philosophy and Art History from State University of New York, Binghamton.

Katherine Maxwell, Business Development Officer

Katherine is a project officer and researcher with five years’ involvement supporting, managing and researching environmental projects in varying contexts including national government, academic institutions, renewable energy developers, international projects and environmental NGOs. Most recently, Katherine has worked for the University of Edinburgh as a Business Development Officer, on the Innovation and International teams. Project experience includes the multi-award winning Low Carbon Innovation Project, SDI funded Shanghai business feasibility study, NERC funded projects that require brokering between industry and academia as well as mentoring and supporting entrepreneurs in ECCI’s Low Carbon Ideas Lab. Katherine has a BSc in Geography, an MSc in Environmental Sustainability from the University of Edinburgh and is currently undertaking a PhD at the University of Oxford on a Sustainable Urban Development programme.

Laura Scotland, Events Coordinator

Laura is responsible for organising the 2020 secretariat events at ECCI. From managing room bookings to ensuring the ‘behind the scenes’ organisation of meetings and conferences runs smoothly and efficiently, Laura provides on-the-day support for events and meetings. She facilitates delegate management and registration and provides high quality customer service to event organisers and attendees. Laura has been in post since 2013.

Matthew Ross, Centre Administrator 

Matthew oversees the day-to-day administration of the 2020 secretariat budget. As well as supporting the 2020 Group secretariat he also supports ECCI’s senior team and manages the ECCI events administrator and receptionist posts. Prior to his current role, Matthew worked for the Scottish Universities Life Sciences Alliance (SULSA), where he gained experience supporting interdisciplinary scientific activity spanning both academia and industry.
