Taking a lead on transport

The purpose of the 2020 Group is to provide leadership to organisations in Scotland in cutting carbon.

In 2012, it was proposed that Transport was an area on which to focus and a report was conducted which investigated the current activity in the 2020 Climate Group member organisations to reduce emissions from transport and identified some of the opportunities and barriers to doing more.

Following this report, the Transport Subgroup has been looking at practical ways in which organisations can support demonstration projects that show leadership in low carbon transport. Four projects have been developed:

• Promoting the uptake of electric vehicles – organisations who sign up to this project will be able to trial one or more of a range of electric vehicles for commercial use at almost no cost with everything arranged for them.
• Understanding cultural barriers to uptake of virtual meeting technology – organisations who sign up to this pledge will be asked to support research being undertaken by distributing a questionnaire within their organisation.
• Increasing travel by public transport – organisations who sign up to this pledge will be asked to work with the public transport providers in the Transport Subgroup to increase public transport in their organisations for commuting and business travel.
• Increasing uptake of fuel efficient driving – organisations who sign up to this project will be asked to participate in fuel efficient driver training.

You will be supported in each project by a member of the 2020 Transport Sub Group and will work with them to deliver change and measure the impact with a view to reporting back on the impact to the 2020 Group by the end of 2013.
